About the project

The following project explains how I used a Raspberry Pi 4 to create a personal digital video recorder to record over-the-air tv.

Required Hardware

This project requires the following hardware:

• Raspberry Pi 4 (with the required parts)
  • 4GB of ram
  • A 16GB SD card
  • A micro HDMI cable
  • Monitor with HDMI input
  • A 15.3W USB-C Power Supply (3A @ 5v power supply)
  • Raspberry Pi 4 case. Preferably a passive cooling case for noise consideration.
    I used the Argon One case.
• An HDHomeRun Dual tuner from Silicondust. The oldest model will do. For this build, I used the HDHR3-US which dates back to 2012-2013.
• An over-the-air tv antenna for ATSC signals. For this build I use the Clearstream 4 antenna by Antennas Direct.
• 50ft to 100ft Coaxial Cable, 18AWG, 75 Ohm to connect the antenna to the HDHomeRun.
• External Solid State Drive (SSD) with about 500Gb in size.
• USB 3.0 to SATA Converter Adapter - Look for one that has UASP support.

Software list

I record lots of TV shows using the HDHomeRun. I sometime want to keep recordings on a disk for archiving or to watch later. With all TV shows comes a bunch of TV ads that I do not want to keep and waste time and disk space for. I encode all my videos using Handbrake because it supports quality based H264 encoding and 5.1 surround sounds but unfortunately, it does not support removing ads.

Dans cet article, je vais vous expliquer comment j’ai créé moi-même un éclairage au DEL sous le lit de la chambre à coucher qui peut remplacer votre lampe de chevet existante.

How about being able to turn off a lamp that’s been turned on by your partner without leaving your bed?

In this article, I will explain how I created a bedroom under the bed LED lighting solution that can replace your existing bedside lamp.

There is something missing in most kitchens I have seen in my life and it is not a huge free space or a smart refrigerator. It is much simpler than that. I am talking about good lighting. All kitchen that I have used had decent lighting when used during a bright shiny day but was lacking appropriate lighting during a rainy days or nights. Most of then were also missing under cabinet lighting.

Following the birth of a child and after the celebration is all the stuff you have to buy to protect the house of “potential dangers”. Quickly, you realize that you need to buy a baby gate.

I looked at several models and I have not found a model that can suit my needs and my situation. I needed a baby gate that can:

• Cover a length of at least 52 inches.
• Operate at an angle of 41.9 degrees.
• Attachable to a wall and a stair railing.
• Non-intrusive (it should not leave any mark on the ramp once removed).
• Strong enough to withstand a child jumping on it.

Unfortunately, the area to be protected is very large and I have not managed to find a gate that is long enough and solid to block the access to the stairs. This is how I started this project: ​​build my own baby gate.

Ce qui suit la naissance d’un enfant après les réjouissances c’est tous les trucs qu’il faut acheter pour protéger la maison des “dangers potentiels”. Rapidement, on doit acheter une barrière pour bébé.

J’ai regardé plusieurs modèles et je n’ai pas trouvé un modèle qui puisse convenir à mes besoins et à ma situation soit:

• Couvrir une longueur d’au moins 52 pouces.
• Fonctionnant à un angle de 41.9 degrés.
• Pouvant se fixer à un mur et à une rampe d’escalier.
• Non-intrusive (elle ne doit pas laisser de marque sur la rampe une fois enlevée).
• Suffisamment solide pour résister à un enfant qui saute dessus.

Malheureusement, l’espace à protéger est très grand et je n’ai pas réussi à trouver une barrière qui soit suffisamment longue et à la fois solide pour bloquer le passage. Ce projet a donc pris naissance et je me suis lancé avec l’idée de faire ma propre barrière.
